Who am I?
You can read about me here. This may be a bit boring. The following is what the Book Guild wrote about me:
"Peter Thompson is an environment consultant living in County Durham. His restoration work at Monnet is the culmination of years of building and DIY work at each home he has owned from constructing a stone double garage to extending a Georgian vicarage and now renovating the farm he and his wife live in Weardale. Peter also runs the Wear Valley Open Air Swimming Pool, which was recently awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service to the Community."
Who am I in the context of rescuing this house in France?
Phrases like " I like a challenge" come to mind but it is truer to say I like the adrenalin buzz of doing something which others wouldn't dare. The satisfaction of creating something good out of nothing comes into it as well. With Monnet all this was true at the start but after that it started to have a life of its own we couldn't stop even if we had wanted to. Everyone that visited us was given a job and thus in a minute way owned a part of the house so the concept of stopping just did not exist . Too many people would have been let down.
Playing with big toys is a good part of it too.
